Recap of the AWS summit in Berlin

On April 12th,  Amazon Webservices held its’ European event, the AWS Summit Berlin 2016. As AWS is a big partner of ours and its’ services are fundamental for our tech stack, Alex, Robert and I took the opportunity to take part in this event.

After the inspiring keynote from the Amazon CTO, Dr Werner Vogels, the summit continued with tons of interesting sessions so we planned our attack, split up and conquered. Our interests went from real-time processing of big data environments to continuous integration and deployment, microservices, performance testing & monitoring in the cloud. Of course, it was not entirely new stuff for us, but we got assured of what we are currently running and some pretty good ideas of where our platform and infrastructure stack will be in the next couple of months.

Besides having some recreational time between the sessions, we strolled around the partner booths and had a closer look at the various services that were offered. We’re happy to have found one or two services that may help us to ensure availability and stability of our platform whilst reducing cost and giving us time to focus on developing new, exciting features.

After a busy day, the evening rolled into an awesome party accompanied with live music, Berlin-style Currywurst and to top it all off…..a lot of drinks.

We took the chance to socialise and cement our relationships with all the partners and AWS guys we were already working with but hadn’t yet met in person. And so the evening, with some of its memories, slowly faded… see you next year, Berlin!
